Teen Choice Award Nominees 2012


Fox has announced the first wave of Teen Choice Award nominees, with "The Vampire Diaries" on The CW and "American Idol" on Fox leading the pack.

"The Vampire Diaries," starring Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder, earned six nominations, while the singing competition show "American Idol" racked up five.

The CW's "Gossip Girl" also managed to pull in a few nominations, as did Fox's "Fringe" and "Glee."

Since its founding 35 years ago by Marvin and Barbara Davis, The Carousel of Hope has raised over $75 million on behalf of the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes in Denver, Colo. Over 6,000 children and adults with type 1 diabetes from around the globe visit regularly for specialized care. The Center also cares for children with type 2 diabetes. Both forms of the disease are increasing at an epidemic rate.

The 84th Academy Awards ceremony, hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), honored the best films of 2011. The ceremony took place on February 26, 2012, at the Hollywood and Highland Center in Hollywood, California, and was televised live in the United States on ABC.

The event was hosted by Billy Crystal, marking his ninth time as host, and produced by Brian Grazer. Eddie Murphy was originally scheduled to be the host, and Brett Ratner was to be producer. However, Murphy stepped down after Ratner resigned, following Ratner's use of a gay slur when discussing rehearsals.

Academy Awards of Merit were presented in 24 standard competitive categories at the February 26, 2012, ceremony. Nominations for these awards were announced by AMPAS on January 24, 2012. In addition, three Honorary Academy Awards were presented at the 3rd Annual Governors Awards ceremony held on on November 12, 2011.

The Artist and Hugo each won five awards, with the former winning Best Picture and its star Jean Dujardin winning Best Actor. The Iron Lady won two awards, including Best Actress for Meryl Streep. The Artist became the first silent motion picture in 83 years (after Wings, which won Best Picture at the 1st Academy Awards) and the first French film to win Best Picture.

Elton John celebrated 20 years of hosting his premiere Oscar fundraising party and offered some choice words on how to advance such an initiative.

"Never rest on your laurels," John told Pop Sugar.

The event, which 900 people attended, saw some of Hollywood's biggest names, but the focus wasn't on the awards actresses won or the gowns they wore. John's party served to raise funds for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment and efforts to fighting the stigma associated with the disease, the Advocate reports...
